Norway

Comments
The legalisation or confirmation of a signature on a document of a Norwegian public official (official or other authorised person), that the person concerned has the position indicated on the document and is thus entitled to issue such a document. The document should bear the official stamp of the institute. A text stamp is not accepted. Legalisation does not mean a confirmation of the correctness of the content of the document.
The normal legalisation process is as follows: the document is confirmed by a Notary Public (i.e. the “Byfogdembete” or the District Court), thereafter by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and finally by the particular country’s Embassy accredited to Norway.

The Hague-convention
For those countries which have adopted the Hague-convention, the document shall be presented to the County Governor who confirms that the Notary Public is appointed for the county when affixing the Apostille. This stamp confirms who has signed the document, the position which the person has and which institute has applied the official stamp. The Embassy stage is not required in this case.

For further information please contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consulate section, tel. 22 24 38 45. The Consulate Section is open for legalisation, Monday- Friday from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon and from 13.00 pm to 14.30 pm.
